Subotica
Maurer is a four-generation family wine project led by Oszkár Maurer, who began making wine in 1994 and now works with his family. Vineyards are divided between the sandy Subotica–Horgoš area around Hajdukovo and sites on Fruška Gora in Srem, giving the cellar two markedly different northern Serbian landscapes. The official philosophy is based on organic farming, native varieties and experimentation with spontaneous fermentation, lees ageing and little or no added sulphur. Old northern parcels include Kövidinka, Bakator, Sremska Zelenika and Kadarka, including a Kadarka planting dated to 1880, alongside Grašac, Slankamenka and Frankovka. Published office hours do not amount to a visitor programme; contact Maurer to confirm tastings, food and reservations.
