About the Winery

Podrum Džervin was founded in Knjaževac on 27 March 1927 and became one of the major wine names of the former Yugoslavia. After a difficult period of decline, new owners took over in 2013 with a programme of vineyard renewal and cellar modernisation. Today the winery describes 40 hectares on the sunny slopes of the Knjaževac area, with the Štipina and Boševo sites at the centre of its work. White varieties include Italian and Rhine Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc; red plantings include Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Muscat Hamburg. The cellar uses modern stainless-steel equipment, a new barrique room, laboratory and automated bottling line while retaining the Džervin name and history. Visits are offered at the Knjaževac site, but travellers should arrange the current format in advance. It is a useful stop for understanding both the industrial heritage and modern renewal of eastern Serbian wine.
